The land is obviously signified by the dry land that emerged from the dead waters on the third day. In Genesis 1, we have these three matters either stated or implied. What is the basis or the ground to draw upon the pictures that were presented in Genesis in order to help us with the book of Hebrews?Īs we will soon see this particular message connects as the Bible does the matters of the land, Christ and God’s chosen people. Though we’re in the midst of the life study of Hebrews, today we’re going to touch many points that we first touched in the life study of Genesis for those that were with us at that time. We will see all this land typified in today’s life study of Bible. Hebrews 2:5 says, “For it was not to angels that He subjected the coming inhabited earth concerning which we speak.” Though we may long for heaven, it is the earth, the land, the good land that has occupied God from the ages for His purpose. The good land typified in the Old Testament is profoundly related to God’s eternal purpose to have a corporate expression. Hebrews (Program #17) – The Good Land for the Fulfillment of God’s Purpose For both Peter’s transformation and the accomplishment of God’s very eternal purpose is hinted at in this symbolic act. And it implies that God has much more in mind for Peter than simply saving him from his sins. And so the changing of this poor Galilean fisherman’s name from Simon to something so solid and permanent, as Peter, a stone for God’s building is full of meaning. Of course nothing of God’s genuine work is accomplished merely in name only. Looking at him, Jesus said, You are Simon, the son of John you shall be called Cephas (which is interpreted, Peter).” This is John chapter 1: 40-42ġ:40 “ One of the two who heard this from John and followed Him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.”Ĥ1 “He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, We have found the Messiah (which translated means Christ).”Ĥ2 “ He led him to Jesus. The story of the Lord’s calling of the apostle Peter as is recorded in the gospel of John includes and intriguing unusual component he changes his name from Simon to Cephas which literally means a stone. And this was their appearance: They had the likeness of a man.”ġ Peter (Program #2) – The Operation of the Triune God Upon the Elect for Their Participation in His Full Salvation But if we genuinely experience God in these aspects, it will also produce something which we also come to today in verse 5, “And from the midst of it there came a likeness of four living creatures. God is like a wind to us, He overshadows and broods over us like a cloud At times He’s a burning refining fire to purify us and He’s also like a shining glowing electrum of gold and silver depicting His divine nature and Christ’s redemption. For example in the beginning of the book, in the first 4 verses it says, “The word of Jehovah came expressly to Ezekiel the priest…And I looked, and there came a storm wind from the north, a great cloud and a fire flashing incessantly and there was a brightness around it, and from the midst of it, there was something like the sight of electrum, from the midst of the fire.” These four items, the wind, the cloud, the fire and the electrum actually depict various aspects of how we experience God. So God is judging these people and protecting and perfecting His people in those judgments.Įzekiel (Program #4) – The Four Living CreaturesĮzekiel is a book of figures or pictures that portrays spiritual things. But Israel now is under a lot of opposition from a lot of different nations, kingdoms and peoples. God wants to perfect His people so He can accomplish His goal of producing the Body of Christ. But His judgment on those nations that come against Israel, His people is referred to Israel in this case because we’re talking about the Old Testament prophet Zechariah, but it applies God’s people in every age. ![]() ![]() The judgment on His people is for the purpose of perfecting them so God’s full and eternal purpose may be accomplished. In chapter 6 we see another vision of God’s judgment on unrighteousness and also His judgment on His people. This is the last program dealing with the eight visions in the book of Zechariah. God cares about His chosen people and God is for His chosen people that through all His judgments He will perfect them and punish those who oppose His people.
